Why Use Organic Virgin Coconut Oil & Related Products?...

"Coconut oil is the healthiest oil on earth" says Dr. Bruce Fife...
Naturopathic doctor and author of "The Healing Miracles of Coconut Oil . "

On the previous page we looked at many reasons you should be using organic virgin coconut oil as part of your daily diet. Now we'll look at some individual reasons why...

If you look up "neutriceutical" in a dictionary, it will refer to foods or food extracts that have a medicinal effect on human health.

Well guess what? Organic Virgin Coconut Oil is a product that can rightly be called a neutriceutical because of its ability to help with numerous of health problems. This claim is not just smoke and mirrors to sell coconut oil. It is validated by ample positive research & studies that have been carried out on it. In particular, Jon J. Kabara, Ph.D (Professor Emeritus, Michigan State University) had this to say about the value of lauric oils (contained in virgin coconut oil)....

"Never before in the history of man is it so important to emphasize the value of Lauric Oils. The medium-chain fats in coconut oil are similar to fats in mother's milk and have similar nutriceutical effects."

Throughout Asia and the Pacific, coconut oil has been used for thousands of years as both a food and a medicine. In Ayurvedic medicine it is still valued highly. It has taken years for modern medical research to confirm the many health benefits traditionally attributed to coconut oil... far too many years judging by the rapid collective declining state of our health.

Coconut oil has been proven to have anti-microbial and anti-viral properties. So much so that it is being used in the treatment of AIDS patients. Actual studies conducted in the Philippines show coconut oil does indeed reduce the viral load in AIDS patients.

Because of its high saturated fat content, coconut oil was mistakenly thought to be detrimental to your health. Instead however, researchers have found coconut oil to contain a unique form of saturated fat, actually helping prevent heart disease, stroke, and hardening of the arteries... imagine the possibilities!

The saturated fat in coconut oil is not like any other fats found in meat or vegetables. Fact is, it's identical to fats found in human breast milk shown to improve digestion, strengthen the immune system, and protect against bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. These fats from coconut oil are now commonly used for hospital IV formulations, commercial baby formulas and sports drinks to boost energy and enhance athletic performance.

Here's an interesting fact about the consumption of soybean oil and soy products (soy has proven thyroid suppressing properties). Wonder why soybeans are used so extensively in feeding livestock? Soybeans actually cause reduced metabolism and more rapid weight gain. Check some labels in your cupboard and see how much soybean oil is in the stuff!

However, the lauric acid found in coconut oil actually stimulates thyroid function, leading to weight loss. Fifty years ago farmers tried giving their livestock coconut meal as a cheap food, and found that their animals became lean rather than fatter. Guess what they switched to?... yup... soybeans!

Know Anyone With Diabetes? That's a safe bet. I can think of about a dozen right off the top of my head. Betchya didn't realize that organic coconut oil is also a magic bullet in protecting against diabetes... but you soon will :)

Researchers have proven that over-consumption of refined vegetable oils leads to diabetes. In the islands of the Pacific where bananas, sweet potatoes, fresh fruit (and yes), coconuts are staples in their daily diets diabetes is actually unheard of. Only when those people stopped eating pure, natural source coconut oil as their oil of choice and switched to refined vegetable oils did they see any sign of diabetes. In some instances where tropical populations are highly urbanized the rate of diabetes is 50%!

The fact is, organic virgin coconut oil is probably the one fat a diabetic should eat. Not only does it NOT contribute to diabetes, but it helps regulate blood sugar. Also, coconut oil enhances metabolism stimulating increased production of needed insulin and absorption of glucose into cells, crucial for all diabetics.

How About Weight Loss/Control...

Now get this... Even though is saturated fat, coconut oil actually promotes weight loss!! Yup... all true! Again, this is because of medium chain fatty acids found in coconut oil. These fatty acids don't circulate in the bloodstream like other fats, but are sped to the liver where they are immediately converted into energy, just like carbohydrates. Your body will use the saturated fats in coconut oil to produce energy, rather than be stored as body fat.

Those same medium chain fatty acids in coconut oil kick-start the body's metabolism, burning even more calories and encouraging your body to lose weight. The effects of coconut oil in losing weight have been proven by many researchers. The health benefits provided by coconut products are found no place else more abundantly in nature than in coconut oil. Also, for those with hypothyroid problems, medium chain fatty acids crank up the body's sluggish metabolism, promoting weight loss for you folks as well.

Coconut Flour... Gluten Free - Low Carb - High Fibre

Basically, coconut flour is dried, powdered coconut meat, finely ground into a powder. That's the basics. Here are some nutritional details you need to know...

Coconut Flour is low in carbs and is ideal for baking breads and baked goods. Also, it has fewer digestible carbs than any other flour, (including soy flour), and even has fewer digestible carbs than most vegetables.

Coconut Flour is a good 'great' source of protein. It has as much protein as wheat flour but it has no gluten, a huge advantage for gluten allergies and wheat sensitivities.

Coconut Flour is very high in fibre... as in 38.5% fibre. This is the highest percentage of dietary fibre found in ANY flour. Yup, any flour! (By the way, wheat bran is 27% fibre). Coconut flour contains almost 3 times as much fibre as soy flour. Fibre promotes good health instead of contributing to health problems like starch and sugar do. On average, most Canadians consume 18-25g of fibre daily. The Heart Foundation recommends that adults should consume approximately 30g daily. The best way to do this is by eating foods rich in fibre such as whole grains, vegetables, and fruits. Coconut flour is another excellent way to increase your daily fibre intake.
